first Canada Screenwriters meeting at PAL — the Performing Arts Lodge — in Vancouver was a resounding success.

Vincent Nguyen gave a very powerful presentation of how to harness your creative reserves to maximum effect. He illustrated how approaches are applied in real world settings, with different examples, and also drawing upon his experience in the gaming industry and many fields. Anyone who has met Vince, in whatever capacity, will in all likelihood be struck by his positive style and engaging demeanor.

Screenwriter, comic book creater and games designer Sandford Tuey, who’s sometimes paid hundreds of dollars an hour to share his expertise, presented various aspects of the gaming industry and independent comics, and how it connects with screenwriting. Listeners got to hear important approaches to creatively marketing scripts and make money…even before a script is produced. He also touched on the difference between an agent and a manager, the pros and cons of having an agent vs being a “free agent,” and why good legal counsel is essential to screenwriting success (much more important than having or not having an agent).

To Recap the Tuesday March 24, 7:30 pm, at the:

  • Comic Book Creator and Games Designer Sandford Tuey discussed the role of agents and managers for screenwriters of film and TV. He will also discussed moral rights, copyright protection, and protecting intellectual property.Throughout his 30 year career, Sandford Tuey has distinguished himself in a myriad of positions across the entertainment industry. He is a consultant and licensing specialist who created The Original Bruce Lee Martial Arts Game, co-created Robert Ludlum’s Game of Counter Espionage, is the creator of the independent comic series Galactic Gladiators and currently enjoys writing screenplays.
